The Performing Activism Working Group is part of the State Violence Research Network and draws on the work being carried out by the Social Performance Network to conceptualise activism as social performance. The PAWG aims to extend focus into power, oppression, inequality, and change, by considering the links between activism and social impact, and repression and resistance.
PAWG is particularly interested in using mass media narrativising of instances of activism to develop insights into dominant ideological (state) positionings of resistance. We are interested on working with activists, artists, teachers, and researchers to develop provocations, discussion panels, and ‘interruptions’ in response to the themes of this group.
