How much does your name shape your identity?
My Name Is, is a ‘practice as research’ social action project that explores the relationships we have with our names and captures the nuances of name bias, pressure to conform to western name norms, and name pronunciation. Javeria (Principal Investigator) and Tony (Filmmaker) embarked on this project with support from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London in 2018.
The project is currently in its film phase with future outputs in the pipeline. The 20 minute documentary series has won a number of international film festivals and is screening rotation, with screenings occurring every few weeks.
